Mark Golob
Concert Promoter • Nightclub Owner • Fitness Entrepreneur • Entertainment Executive
Mark Golob has spent decades building businesses at the intersection of entertainment, nightlife, fitness and popular culture. From promoting concerts and owning influential nightclubs to developing fitness businesses and working alongside major entertainers, Golob’s career has repeatedly placed him at the center of changing cultural trends.
His story begins in the live entertainment business.
The Electric Ballroom and the Concert Years
As a concert promoter and nightclub owner, Golob produced and promoted live entertainment during an extraordinary period in American music.
One of the most important venues in his career was the Electric Ballroom.
The Electric Ballroom also produced some of Golob’s most memorable behind-the-scenes stories, including an unusual request from Bruce Springsteen before a performance and a formative encounter with legendary concert promoter Bill Graham at the club’s grand opening. Those episodes are preserved as separate stories in Golob’s career archive, while this biography focuses on the broader arc of his work.
Miami Nightlife: Casanova’s and Parallel Bar

Golob later became deeply involved in the Miami entertainment and nightclub scene.
He owned Casanova’s, where performers included Grace Jones. An archival photograph preserved by Golob shows Jones performing at the club.
Golob also owned the Parallel Bar.
An original Parallel Bar advertisement preserved from the period documents an extensive entertainment lineup, including Grace Jones, Bonnie Pointer, Carol Douglas, Claudia Barry, CeliBee & The Flirts, Tapps, Lime and Trinere, together with live jazz and Miami radio promotions.
These surviving advertisements and photographs provide a visual record of Golob’s involvement in Miami nightlife during the era.
Madonna’s Early Miami Appearances
One of Golob’s most significant memories from this period involves a young performer whose career was beginning its extraordinary ascent.
Golob recalls bringing Madonna to Miami for her first three performances in the city.
Years later, those appearances take on a different significance because of the global career that followed.
For Golob, however, they remain memories from the working life of a promoter—booking talent, creating events and sometimes encountering an artist just before the rest of the world discovered them.
Body Works: Entertainment Meets Fitness
Golob’s entrepreneurial interests eventually expanded from entertainment into another rapidly developing cultural movement: fitness.
He owned The Body Works health club in Miami, a state-of-the-art fitness facility that went well beyond the traditional gym concept.
Body Works incorporated fitness with a human-performance laboratory, restaurant and nightclub, bringing health, social life and entertainment together under one concept.
The idea anticipated the type of comprehensive fitness and wellness destinations that would become increasingly common decades later.
On Tour With Jane Fonda
Archival material from the Jane Fonda fitness era.
As America’s fitness boom accelerated, Golob became involved with Jane Fonda’s enormously influential exercise movement.
Golob went on tour with Fonda, promoting her exercise classes through live events around the country.
His background in concert promotion translated naturally into the new environment. Fitness was becoming a form of mass entertainment, and Golob understood how to produce and promote live experiences.

Golob subsequently worked with actress Linda Evans, traveling through Europe with her as part of a fitness tour.
Photographs preserved from the period document Golob and Evans together during the tour.
The collaboration represented another stage in a career increasingly connecting celebrity, fitness, entertainment and marketing.

Golob eventually developed his own fitness concept.
As creator and CEO of FreeDanse, he moved from promoting fitness personalities and operating facilities into developing a branded program of his own.
An original Fitness Trends International advertisement preserved in Golob’s archive documents FreeDanse and his involvement with the program.

A Career Built on Reinvention
The common thread throughout Mark Golob’s career has been reinvention.
Nightclub owner.
Fitness-club entrepreneur.
Live-event producer.
Fitness-program creator.
Entertainment executive.
The industries changed, but the underlying approach remained remarkably consistent: recognize an emerging cultural movement, understand what attracts an audience, and build an experience around it.
Today, Golob’s personal archive contains photographs, advertisements, newspaper coverage, promotional materials and other memorabilia documenting many of those chapters.
The archive also preserves the personal stories behind those artifacts, offering a separate, more detailed look at memorable encounters, performances and lessons from Golob’s years in entertainment and fitness.
Together, they tell the story of a career lived not on the sidelines of entertainment and popular culture, but inside it.
Mark Golob’s story is ultimately one of entrepreneurship, entertainment and a lifetime of creating experiences that brought people together.
